Brentford striker Ollie Watkins has highlighted his "great connection" with fellow attacker Said Benrahma following the duo's impressive displays during the 5-1 win over Hull on the weekend.

Benrahma netted a hat-trick while Watkins scored a brace during the emphatic win over the Tigers, with Brentford's victory seeing them move up to fifth in the Championship table as they continue their promotion bid this campaign.

The Bees' front three of Watkins, Benrahma and Bryan Mbuemo have formed a prolific partnership for the Griffin Park side this term, with Watkins having topped the club's goalscoring charts following his 19 goals in 31 outings for Thomas Frank's men.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Watkins has now emphasised the fact he shares a great partnership with Benrahma as a result of their training-ground work, despite the fact they sometimes struggle to communicate due to their different native languages.

“We know what he’s trying to get across without understanding the words," he said.

“I think we have a great connection. We compliment each other, but it’s not just come overnight as it’s been on the training field.”

Benrahma has also been one of the key performers in the Brentford side with the Algerian having netted eight goals and registered six assists so far this term.

The Verdict

Brentford have become a serious force to be reckoned with this campaign as a result of their attacking exploits in addition to their tight defence which has seen them become promotion challengers of late.

The front three of Watkins, Benrahma and Mbuemo possess an abundance of quality that can cause issues for any Championship defence, while it has been impressive watching Watkins develop into an out-and-out striker this campaign.

I would fully expect Brentford to qualify for the play-offs this season given the sheer quality in their side and there is no reason why they cannot push for the top two if their attacking unit's excellent form continues.
