Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has appeared to rule out a move for a new defender, casting doubt on a potential move for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.

Rodon was a key player for Swansea last season, with the defender forging a solid defensive partnership with Ben Cabango and helping to guide them towards a play-off spot.

The centre-half has featured in each of Swansea’s opening three Championship fixtures this season, too, with Steve Cooper’s side picking up seven points from a possible nine.

Rodon has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium this transfer window, though, with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City both said to be interested in the Wales international.

United have conceded five goals in their first two Premier League fixtures this term, but it appears that Solskjaer is happy with his defensive options, casting doubt on a potential swoop for Rodon.

Via The Sun, he said after the weekend victory over Brighton: “We've got many defenders here and I put Eric [Bailly] on to bolster the defence, following the runs of [Leandro] Trossard and [Neal] Maupay.

"For me, we've got enough good centre-backs here at the moment.”

United’s defensive frailties so far this season have led to fans urging the club to land a new centre-half, however their stance suggests that a move for Rodon looks unlikely.

The Verdict

This is undoubtedly a massive boost for Swansea with United now unlikely to make a move for Rodon.

He’s still young and has many years ahead of him left to grow, but gaining more experience in the Championship and potentially winning promotion with Swansea would be beneficial for him.

He’s such an important player for Cooper’s side, and after making a strong start to the season, the last thing they’ll want is to lose their best defender before the transfer window closes.
