Bolton Wanderers have opened an emergency food bank to support unpaid staff members who have not received pay for the last two weeks, according to the Bolton News.

The report says that local charities and businesses have been donating fresh food and essentials to the club in order to support the hardest-hit employees, who are suffering after the club appeared in the High Court over an unpaid tax bill last week.

This comes after Bolton entered administration on Monday, with the club releasing a statement to confirm that Paul Appleton and Asher Miller of David Rubin & Partners have been appointed as joint administrators at the University of Bolton Stadium.

It is now hoped that funds will become available to make salary payments as a result of this development, with the club's locked bank account meaning that employees have seen their livelihoods severely affected.

It has been reported that this has led to an unnamed local Championship club sending over £2000 in shopping vouchers to distribute among the club's staff.

Bolton News journalist Marc Iles shared the latest update on his Twitter channel, describing it as one of the most shocking stories he had covered at the club.

Many Bolton fans quickly responded to Iles' food bank update with feelings of shock and anger that the situation had been allowed to run this far. Others also praised the local Championship club for its £2000 contribution.
