‘Offload him,’ ‘Give him a chance’ – Plenty of Birmingham City fans react to question on Cheick Keita

Plenty of Birmingham City fans have given their view on Cheick Keita’s future at the club after not seeing him in action this season.

Blues fans probably would not be able to name Keita in their squad if they were asked, given that the defender has seen first team action hard to come by this term.

Since arriving from lowly Italian side Virtus Entella in 2017, Keita has failed to establish himself in the Midlands and has made just 11 appearances for the Blues.

Loan spells with Bologna and Eupen saw Keita gain some playing time, but this term he has not been able to twist Pep Clotet’s arm for a first team chance.

Having struggled, it was expected that Clotet could loan Keita out in the January transfer window – but that expectation soon vanished when the window slammed shut.

What is ex-Blues man Obafemi Martins' nationality?

With the Blues doing so well in the Championship at present, Keita will find it tough to get himself any minutes between now and the end of the season.

A loan move or permanent exit is fully expected come the summer months, and Blues fans have given their thoughts on his immediate future at the club.

Asked: “Do you expect Cheick Keita to still be a Birmingham player this time next season?” by Football League World’s Ben Crump via Facebook page Birmingham City Fan Zone – most fans of the club all seemed to share the same opinion on the player.

Below are some of the responses:

Tom Cope: No

David F Gay: He has never been a Birmingham City player

Conan B Horton: Offload him

Darren Smith: Hopefully not

Gary Hales: I hope he is given a chance

Carl Evans: Nope

Alan Blincowe: Would like to see him given a chance on the wing. He can’t be any worse than Montero

Dan Sotv Rigby: Give him a chance, left wing instead or left back. He has got the skill to take players on

Mick Greaves: Nope

Kenny Jones: Nope, unless he’s given a few games but why change now
