Middlesbrough could be preparing for a busy January transfer window after a poor start to the season.

Jonathan Woodgate's side find themselves in the relegation zone after a winless run that now stretches to nine Championship games.

Their situation is made worse by the uncertainly regarding the future of star defender Daniel Ayala.

The centre back is out of contract next summer and reports have suggested that the club could look to cash in during the January window.

While Ayala's situation remains up in the air, reports have suggested that Middlesbrough could be eyeing a move for their former defender Ben Gibson.

According to TeamTalk, the Burnley defender could be allowed to leave the club on loan after failing to nail down a regular role in Sean Dyche's starting eleven.

The idea has certainly got people after one fan threw the idea out to a Middlesbrough supporters page on Facebook to get the views of the Boro family.

Here's what some supporters had to say on Facebook.

William McDougall: “Get him back at all costs.”

Clayton Sleeman: “It’d be good for both clubs.”

Craig Hall: “I would love him back but it won’t happen. Boro can’t afford it.”

Richard Bourne: “If true it would be awesome, but this is a fairytale.”

Ryan Kitching: “Offload Ayala and bring in Gibson.”

Robert Barwick: “If true I’d have him back asap.”

Jean Watts: “I’d definitely have him back.”

John Sparkes: “He needs to play so why not Boro?”

Michael Dumbrell: “Wake up and smell the coffee. Ayala will be sold, Ben won’t be coming back. Replacements will come from our youth or League One and below.”
