Brighton and Everton target Ezri Konsa has joined Brentford on a three-year deal, the Bees' official site has confirmed.

The 20-year-old is another talented player to have come through Charlton's academy set-up.

He was heavily involved last season with 39 league appearances, with the majority of them coming as a centre-back.

Although he did also provide cover for the right-back and defensive midfield roles, which shows his versatility and adds to his value for the Bees.

His two seasons in senior football for the Addicks have seen him improve considerably, which made him one of the top prospects in England.

He was also involved in the Under-20 World Cup victory last summer as well as the defence of the Toulon tournament title this summer.

Charlton failed to achieve promotion after a promising end to the season under Lee Bowyer because Shrewsbury were too much for them in the play-offs, so some of their best players were always likely to leave in order to play at a higher level, with Konsa being one of them.

The Verdict

This is a fantastic move by Brentford as they continue to show the rest of the division their ability to scout and acquire top talent.

Their transfer strategy allows them to deal with departures seamlessly because they have talented youngsters to replace them all while making a significant profit.

Brentford continue to punch above their weight due to their forward-thinking as well as having a top manager for this level in Dean Smith.

Konsa's acquisition means they now have him and Chris Mepham as long-term options at centre-back, so they are well-prepared for the future in that area.
