Official: Ipswich Town man is leaving the club

Luke Hyam is set to leave the club after Ipswich didn’t take up the option on his contract to keep him.

The 26-year-old has been at the club for 15 years, but his playing time has gradually decreased in recent seasons, aside from the 2016/17 season when he didn’t play at all due to a number of injury problems.

He made a total of 146 first-team appearances for the Tractor Boys since making his debut, but only made 17 appearances this season with six of them being starts.

This is what he had to say about his time at the club, according to Ipswich’s official site:

I’m a Town fan and to play for the club that you support is a dream for any player, not just me so I’m very privileged to have been able to do that.

I wish the Club all the best for the future and I’ll always be a fan and look out for how well the team does.

It might be the right thing for me as well, with the age that I’m at now, to have a new challenge.”

The Verdict

Mick McCarthy’s departure seems to have been used as a key moment for the club due to him being there for six years, so they are starting to overhaul the squad with more ambitious goals in mind for the team.

Kevin Bru left recently and Hyam has joined him, so the periphery players are being let go of so the academy players can come through into the first-team as well as ensuring there is space for new signings by cutting down the wage bill.

Hyam’s injury issues probably played a part in this as well because they have limited how he has been able to contribute to the team over a number of seasons.
