According to betting guru Oddschanger, Simon Grayson has been installed as the new favourite for the vacant managerial role at Sunderland, with the odds on him being appointed at the Stadium of Light falling dramatically.

Sunderland are on the lookout for David Moyes’ successor, after the Scot left the club following their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, where they have not competed since 2007.

Grayson’s odds have dropped from 20/1 to 2/1 in recent days, with the Preston North End boss now amongst the favourites to move to the north-east with Sunderland.

The 47-year old has a wealth of experience in the Football League, having managed Blackpool, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town and Preston since he turned to management in 2005.

Grayson’s promotion record throughout his career has also been excellent, helping all four of his clubs from League One into the Championship.

Despite his impressive record in League One, Grayson has never achieved promotion to the Premier League, and his best finish in the second-tier came in 2011, when he helped Leeds to seventh.

Grayson has done a fantastic job at Deepdale with Preston, helping the Lilywhites establish themselves in the Championship, even finishing the 2016/17 campaign in the top-half of the table.
