Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has taken his players on a warm weather training camp to Spain this week ahead of the game against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The Championship leaders suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, although they still boast an eleven point lead over third place Cardiff City.

However, Santo had already decided that a change of environment would help refresh his squad for the final part of the season.

It was a decision that we made to go to a camp and work in a different environment,” he told the official site.

One of the issues, of course, is the weather. We need vitamin D, we need the sun. We need to work in an environment with better weather conditions.”

As well as that, the Portuguese manager believes it will help improve the togetherness of the squad.

The other point is that we’re going to stay together for more time, we’re going to spend 24 hours a day with each other, only us. It’s a full week, 24 hours a day, seven days a week so I think it will be very good for us and positive.”

The Verdict

It is very common for clubs to take their own mid-season breaks and we’ve seen the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool head off to Dubai in the past month.

Clearly, those in charge think it will benefit the players and it’s easy to see why. Santo outlined the reasons for his decision and you can’t disagree with them.

Following the disappointing result and performance on Saturday, this could have come at the perfect time for the players too.
