Nuno Santo issues update that will concern Wolves fans

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted he is ‘worried’ after key player Diogo Jota was forced off after just 25 minutes in last night’s 3-0 win over Reading.

The on-loan Atletico Madrid man was caught on the ankle and was in clear pain straight away, rolling around and hitting the floor in agony. And, despite several minutes of treatment, Jota was carried off and replaced by Ivan Cavaleiro.

Whilst Santo doesn’t know the extent of the injury, he acknowledged it must be serious for the 21-year old to stay down and that he will be assessed in the coming days.

We are worried. We know Diogo, when he cannot go on the pitch it is because he is in pain. He has pain. Let’s see what he has,” he told the Express & Star.

But the squad is there. We will see the report – I’m not a specialist!

Fortunately for Wolves, the international break is looming which means they have a 13-day break after the game against Burton Albion on Saturday, which may be the time needed for Jota to recover.

The Verdict

Jota’s injury was the only bit of bad news on what was a great night for Wolves, however it’s a real blow.

The forward has been a standout player for the Black Country side and the worry is that he could face a lengthy time out.

That will be determined in the coming days and everyone connected with Wolves will be hoping it’s nothing serious.
