Wolves boss Nuno Santo has praised two of the side's unsung heroes as he side look to wrap up promotion against Birmingham on Sunday.

The Wanderers boss rarely gives out personal praise, instead focusing on the team, however he made an exception for Romain Saiss and Matt Doherty for their performances and commitment in the week.

"There was a player on the pitch on Wednesday that at the beginning of the second half had a very strong kick and was in pain. He held on to the last minute of the game, working hard, running - that was Romain Saiss," he told the Express & Star.

And for example how Matt Doherty ran back and recovered the ball at 2-0 up on 92 minutes, having this will to help the team is the most important. Of course, the talent and beautiful goals that everyone will talk about but it goes beyond that."

Wolves know that victory over their local rivals on midday this Sunday will seal a return to the top-flight although if Fulham fail to beat Reading the day before, Santo's men will be promoted without having kicked a ball.

The Verdict

Santo has been all about the team ever since he arrived and those two players highlight the togetherness and determination to play for each other that he wants, which is why he's mentioned them.

Obviously, Wolves have a lot of quality individuals who have played a significant role in helping them top the league but there's more to it than that.

Now, his focus will be all on Sunday for what he hopes will be a memorable day for the club.
