Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips released his retained list yesterday, with eight players set to depart Bloomfield Road.

Despite finishing in the top ten of League One, McPhillips is initiating a new start for the club, with a number of names on the list that have surprised fans.

The one that really stands out is Chris Long. The 24-year-old forward is a former Everton youth player who represented England from Under-15 to under-20 level, but he's not being offered new terms.

The other players leaving the Seasiders are Max Clayton, Mark Cullen, Donervon Daniels, John O’Sullivan, Scott Quigley, Fin Sinclair-Smith and Chris Taylor.

Marc Bola, Curtis Tilt and Armand Gnanduillet have all had another year option exercised on their contracts, with all three amongst the key performers for McPhillips this season.

Reaction has been mixed to the list, with some questioning the retention of leading scorer Gnanduillet, whilst others feel Chris Long had more to offer but hadn't been given a chance.

Here's a selection of the responses from Blackpool fans on Twitter.
