Alan Stubbs' tenure at Rotherham United lasted all of 14 matches, after one win in that time resulted in the termination of his contract.

Two days after his dismissal, the Millers appointed a manager with considerable credentials to lead the club forward - announcing the arrival of Kenny Jackett.

The year previous, Rotherham survived in the Championship by one place ahead of a rebuilding job that Stubbs was to lead but ultimately would not be able to deliver.

Jackett joined on October 21, 201,6 after successful spells with Millwall and Wolverhampton Wanderers, getting both sides promoted from League One and keeping them in the Championship.

It was an appointment that was met with an overall feeling of approval from supporters after a dismal start to the Championship season.

With the new manager effect and a boss of Jackett’s calibre at the helm, Rotherham supporters felt it could be a turning point in their season.

But, oh how wrong they would be, after the initial favourable reaction to the appointment.

The bounce of a new man in charge did not come off straight away, losing his first game in charge, a 1-0 reverse to Reading at home.

Jackett would get off the mark with a point in a 2-2 draw away to Ipswich, narrowly missing out on three points, conceding of a 95th minute David McGoldrick effort.

Three more defeats to Preston, Derby and rivals Leeds extended the club’s 14 matches run without a win and left Rotherham 11 points from safety at such an early stage of the season.

On November 28 that year, Jackett tendered his resignation in a shock move.

His reign at the club lasted 39 days and left the club looking for their third manager of the season in the first three months and a sixth in the last 14 months.

Jackett had signed a three-year deal at the New York Stadium and soon became the unwanted statistic of becoming the club’s shortest-serving permeant manager.

The reaction to his departure was of disbelief, with some calling the former boss a coward for bailing out on a side bereft of confidence.

The reaction to his appointment was extremely positive, but few would have envisaged his time at the club coming to an end so soon after what the fans thought was an appointment for the long haul.
