Bradford City recorded their first win since the appointment of Stuart McCall, overcoming Stevenage 3-1 after going a goal down in the first half.

The Bantams were fresh from a disappointing late draw at home to a resurgent Grimsby Town side when they conceded an equaliser in stoppage time, but didn’t let it get them down as they managed to build on it under new manager Stuart McCall.

There were definite positive signs already in his first game and that grew last night when they managed to come from behind at home to Stevenage to win 3-1, with two goals from Shay McCartan just after half time seeing the hosts take the lead before Lee Novak sealed the win deep into stoppage time.

Novak has hit the ground running at the Utilita Energy Stadium since signing in January, scoring two in his first two games, while McCartan has had contrasting form this season, scoring just one league goal all campaign before tonight.

There were a number of solid performances from the Bantams as they created a handful of decent chances, with Jake Reeves’ boundless energy setting the tone, despite the fact that he’s battled with a serious injury for the past two years.

The club’s twitter account ran a poll to see who the fans believed the Man of the Match was on the night, with McCartan claiming the accolade with a whopping 64% of the vote after his goals turned the game on its head, pipping Ben Richards-Everton, Connor Wood, and Dylan Mottley-Henry in the vote.

However, a lot of fans were keen to notice one or two names that didn’t receive enough praise for their efforts...
