The 2017/18 League Two campaign is shaping up to be a very promising one for all concerned with Notts County.

The Magpies' new chairman/owner Alan Hardy has bred new life into Meadow Lane, and with the shrewd appointment of Kevin Nolan, they look an unstoppable force, and a club that looks to be finally on the ascent.

Notts have lost just once at home since the former Bolton and Newcastle midfielder took the reins of the club from John Sheridan, where they came out victorious just the once at Meadow Lane.

Nolan has wasted no time in bolstering his squad in preparation for a potential promotion push next term, with the arrivals of wingers Terry Hawkridge and Lewis Alessandra, signing from Lincoln City and Hartlepool United respectively, with more set to arrive.

The likes of Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead were influential for the Magpies last term, and have both been offered new deals due to their outstanding performances, the latter has recently signed a new deal at Meadow Lane despite interest from the MLS.

At the age of 35 and 34-years old respectively though, do the duo have the physical ability to withstand a full season in League Two, especially if the club are looking to galvanise a push for League One next term?

The answer is probably no, therefore Notts definitely need another forward that will add to the firepower upfront, and a perfect signing would be Stevenage's Matty Godden.
The 25-year-old endured a magnificent debut campaign in League Two last term, having arrived at the LAMEX Stadium from non-league outfit Ebbsfleet United for an undisclosed fee last summer.
Many doubted Godden's ability to step up two divisions and act as a spearhead in Boro's promotion push to League One last term, despite scoring 35 goals in 70 appearances for the then National League South outfit.
The forward was soon to prove his doubters wrong, however, scoring a total of 20 goals in 37 appearances for Darren Sarll's men as they narrowly missed out on a League Two playoff place.
It's not just his goalscoring ability that makes him such an attractive proposition, as his strength and hold-up ability would be a key asset alongside Stead and Ameobi who are specialists at getting others involved.
Godden's signature is likely to come at a hefty price, however with a competitive budget in the division next term, Notts can definitely lure the 25-year old to Meadow Lane in the summer...
