Notts County as a club will be wholeheartedly disappointed at the fact they missed out on a major transfer target who the Magpies had been publicly pursuing for a number of weeks.

Nottingham Forest defender Alex Iacovitti was set to make the very short trip across the River Trent to Meadow Lane but the Scotsman opted to join County's fellow League Two side Forest Green Rovers instead and it leaves Kevin Nolan in the market looking for a possible replacement target.

If they're aiming to acquire a young, hungry Championship centre-back then Bristol City's Zak Vyner would be an ideal player to sign before the window shuts as he offers more Football League experience than Iacovitti.

The London-born player has become a prospective talent at Ashton Gate having made his debut for the Robins in February 2016 during a 2-0 triumph over MK Dons in the league.

Vyner's ability to adapt at a rapid rate across the back line is what gives more reason for Notts County to pursue his signature; being able to play predominantly as a right-back or slot in at centre-half if need be.

Last year, Zak Vyner spent a period of the campaign on loan at League Two outfit Accrington Stanley so already has a knowledge of the division, and if Kevin Nolan's aims are to mount a promotion bid then this man is well up for that ambitious task.
