Notts County midfielder Ryan Yates looks set for a bright future in professional football if his performances for the Magpies so far this season are anything to go by.

The 19-year-old versatile performer is on loan from local rivals Nottingham Forest and his four goals in five games have helped County claim top spot in League Two.

Yates is another product to come off the conveyor belt of talent over at the City Ground and the chance to play first-team football across the river at Meadow Lane looks like an ideal situation for all parties.

Quite bizarrely it wasn't his exploits in front of the opposing goal that prompted Kevin Nolan into taking him on loan for the season, instead hoping that he would act as a player who broke up play in front of his own back four.

Nonetheless, Yates is relishing the chance to play regular first-team football in the Football League and feels that the temporary move is going 'perfectly well'.

The County midfielder told the Nottingham Post: " It is going perfect to be honest.

"I set myself quite high standards and I want to be in the team and to be getting better with each game.

" I have scored a few more goals than what I thought I would and my aim by this time of the season was just to be in the team to be honest. I wanted to cement my place and just take it from there really.

With Yates comfortable in more than one position, his versatility could be a major attribute for County as they look to win promotion to League One.

Yates continued: "My main aim really is to just keep things simple. I am young, I am still raw and I would love to add more goals to my game.

"Scoring has given me more confidence in and around the box so when it's all frantic you just need to slow down, but that will obviously come with experience."

County travel to Stevenage this weekend looking to stay at the summit of League Two and Yates is expecting a tricky contest down in Hertfordshire.

He said: "They're going to be bang up for it because we are top of the league - everyone wants to turn it on against the top teams.

"It will be high-energy but we just need to slow that down, impose ourselves and play our normal game. They have a good home record but we just have to focus on ourselves. If we do what we're good at, we'll come away with three points.
