Notts County have offered club captain Michael O'Connor a second, improved deal in light of interest from Lincoln City.

It was widely considered that O'Connor would leave Notts County after rejecting their first deal. He also rejected a move to League Two rivals Grimsby Town last week, according to reports from the Grimsby Telegraph.

Today the Magpies have offered a better deal, one sanctioned by owner Alan Hardy, in an effort to keep O'Connor at Meadow Lane. It is believed to be a similar deal to that he has been offered elsewhere, according to Nottingham Live.

All those reports mention significant interest from Lincoln City, a side O'Connor has played for previously. He was at Sincil Bank on loan in 2008/09, but ended up moving to Scunthorpe and latterly Rotherham United.

He spent most of last season on the treatment table, returning only for the final play off push. He did earn his first team spot back, but has since looked likely to depart.

It now remains to be seen if Kevin Nolan can convince his captain to stay put, or whether he moves to a promotion rival.

The Verdict

County are fighting hard to keep O'Connor, but will he see through the latest offer? After all, if he wasn't worth a competitive salary three weeks ago, why would he sign one now? If he does join Lincoln it would be the reverse of Terry Hawkridge's move last season, a player who turned down terms at Lincoln to move to Meadow Lane.
