Shola Ameobi is training with League Two side Notts County, reports BBC Sport.
The former Newcastle United striker has been without a club since his release from Fleetwood Town, but is looking to earn a short-term contract with County.
The Magpies boss Kevin Nolan is looking to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season, with the ex-West Ham midfielder even registering himself to play this week.
Ameobi spent 14-years at Newcastle where he scored over 50 goals for the club, making appearances in the Premier League and Championship.
Nolan and Ameobi played together during their time at Newcastle.
Notts County are struggling in Sky Bet League Two, they currently sit 22nd in the division.
Since Nolan’s appointment the club have picked up four out of a possible nine points in their fight to avoid relegation.
County travel to Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon.
