Sunderland's march for promotion is well on truly on after their convincing 2-0 win away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in five league games and have lost just the once this season, and Jack Ross' men look the real deal for promotion after seven wins from thirteen.

The North East club are just one point off the automatic promotion places and have a game in hand on second-place Peterborough United, as they prepare to face a tough trip to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

As the Stadium of Light faithful anticipate an immediate return to the Championship, the January transfer window is a massively important time for Jack Ross, who will certainly look to strengthen his squad ahead of a promotion push.

Here, we take a look at three players that Sunderland should look to sign in January.

Wright is surplus to requirements at Sheffield United under Chris Wilder this season having failed to make an appearance for the Blades.

The 32-year old will be itching for a move away in January, and he could be a solid addition for the Black Cats.

Now this really would be a real coup - Bridcutt looks very likely to depart Nottingham Forest in January and could be available for a bargain price.

He may not want to move down to League One, but Sunderland look set for a return to the Championship and Ross could sell his plans to the 29-year old.

Bridcutt is of course no stranger to the Stadium of Light having endured three years in the North East, and could be a magnificent January addition.

After scoring 25 goals in 50 games for League Two side Cheltenham Town last term, Eisa has made just four appearances for Bristol City since his £1.5million move to Ashton Gate.

It's clear that he isn't settling at Championship level, and a loan move to Sunderland could be a good move for the striker.

It'll be hard to get in the team ahead of Josh Maja, but Eisa needs to prove a point and would be a great signing on loan for Ross' men.
