Coventry City are reportedly considering a move for Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker.

The 22-year-old was excellent on loan with Mansfield Town last season, scoring 26 goals and providing four assists for the League Two side.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, Walker is one of the names on Sky Blues' boss Mark Robins' transfer list as he looks to add some more quality to his forward line.

Coventry striker Conor Chaplin has been linked with a move to Barnsley after the Championship side made a £700,000 bid for him and the club may consider using that money to make a permanent bid for the Reds' forward.

A Forest academy graduate, Walker has made 38 senior appearances for the club but has been out on loan for the past 18 months.

The son of England legend Des Walker, the 22-year-old may be hoping he can force himself into the first-team under new manager Sabri Lamouchi.

The Frenchman currently has seven striking options to choose from in his Reds' squad, including last season's top scorer Lewis Grabban and summer signing Sammy Ameobi.

Verdict

Despite finishing in eighth in League One, Coventry scored 19 fewer goals than any side in the top six last season and adding firepower should be high on Robins' agenda.

Walker proved at Mansfield last season that he can be a reliable first-choice striker and could be an excellent option for the Sky Blues as they look to go one better this season and qualify for the play-offs.

If Forest are not planning on utilising him much in the Championship this season they should send him out on loan again to get some more experience.

However, the Nottingham club could do with some additional firepower themselves, having scored eight less than the Championship top six and 32 less than league winners Norwich City.

Grabban was the only striker to make it into double figures last season and Lamouchi may feel that it is worth keeping Walker at the club as cover.
