Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has backed Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan to bounce back from defeat in the Championship play-off final.

The Reds ended their 23-year wait for Premier League football by beating Huddersfield 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday – with Levi Colwill's own-goal the only thing that separated the two sides.

Corberan has backed his side to challenge for promotion again next season and it seems Cooper, who has suffered defeat in the play-offs in the previous two campaigns, believes the Spaniard is the right coach to help them do that.

Speaking after yesterday's victory, the Welshman heaped praise on the Terriers boss and predicted he would bounce back next season.

He said: "Huddersfield, by the way, a huge amount of respect for Carlos and his team – some really good players.

"I was stood where he is now last year and it's a tough place but I know he'll bounce back because of the way he coaches his team and it will make him stronger."

The Terriers were earmarked by some to battle relegation in 2021/22 but have been battling at the other end of the Championship, which is due in no small part to their transformation under Corberan.

The Verdict

It's hard to disagree with Cooper on this.

The Forest boss is well placed to offer his insight, having lost in the 2020/21 Championship play-off final and won promotion 12 months later, and Corberan will be hoping to follow in his footsteps.

The Spaniard has done a phenomenal job at Huddersfield already and with another summer to strengthen his personnel and work with his squad, they should be better placed next season.

On top of that, promotions for Fulham, Bournemouth, and Forest do look to have left the Championship wider open next term than it was in 2021/22.
