Nottingham Forest were stunned by M’Bala Nzola’s decision not to join the club this summer, a report from Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed.
After a difficult campaign in front of goal last season, Forest had apparently been keen to bring a striker in this summer, in order to add to the firepower available to Chris Hughton.
Now it seems as though Forest believed they had managed to do that with Nzola, only for a deal to fall through at the final minute.
According to this latest update, Forest believed they had agreed a deal to sign Nzola from Spezia, only for the player back out of the deal at the last minute.
Which 12 of these 25 Nottingham Forest facts are fake?
Last season, Nzola scored 11 goals in 25 league games for Spezia, as they finished 15th in Serie A.
This does feel like it is a rather significant blow for Nottingham Forest.
Goals were hard to come by last season, and with Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor both over the age of 30, it does seem as though they could have benefitted from adding another striker from both a short and long-term perspective.
Given his record in the top-flight in Italy last season was reasonably impressive, and the fact that at 25-years-old Nzola has plenty of time remaining in his career, he could have been a decent option to fill that role at The City Ground.
However, it now seems clear that that will not be happening, so it is important that Forest find another goalscoring option once the window reopens in January.
