Nottingham Forest's Michael Dawson has stated that he thinks the season simply has to be finished at some point.

The Reds are currently sat in fifth place in the Championship and are on track to finish in the play-off places, which would see them be just three games from a place in the Premier League.

Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion currently occupy the automatic promotion places in the division and there has been a lot of speculation about what will happen to the final positions.

This has come about due to the Coronavirus causing the stoppage of mass gatherings, including the majority of football matches across the world.

Dawson has insisted that the season has to finish, and that he doesn't care when it does but the league must come to an end having played all 46 matches of the Championship season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Dawson said: "For me I think that the season will finish at some point.

"I don't know how you can just say with nine games to go that the top two teams get promoted and go on like that, that for me is impossible to happen.

"Whenever it may finish, in September, October, November - we haven't got a timescale - but the games for me have to finish in whatever way and capacity they can be."

The Verdict

He's spot on, the season simply has to come to an end with all 46 of the games in the league having been played to a finish.

It's the only way to decide fairly on the outcomes of all the different spots in the division, and it could have a big impact on club's futures.

Forest are in the play-offs, and have a real opportunity of making it to the Premier League, and there's no reason why they can't if they end up in the top six.

They've got a good core, but they must maintain that the individuals are doing their own workouts in the coming weeks to ensure they stay fit ahead of the run-in.
