Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash has revealed that he had discussions with his agent about a potential move to AC Milan in January.

The 22-year-old has been top class for the Reds this season – making 39 appearances in all competitions and grabbing three goals and four assists.

Cash has been used in a range of positions throughout his career but has made the right-back role his own this term and been a key part of why Forest are pushing for promotion.

Such have been the quality of his performances that the Englishman drew the attention of some big clubs in the summer, with West Ham United and AC Milan both reportedly making bids for him.

Cash, who is a product of Forest's academy system, remained at the club but, speaking to Sky Sports, has revealed he did have discussions with his agent over the Italian side's interest.

He said: "My agent had a few chats with me. There were a few conversations but I had a job to do at the time and a few games to focus on. But I heard about it, yeah!"

You'd imagine that there will be interest in Cash again this summer and that it may be difficult to keep him at the club if the Reds are unable to secure a place in the top flight.

The Verdict

It's interesting to hear Cash confirm that he was aware of the interest and that discussions were had about it.

The 22-year-old has been fantastic this season and looks a really bright prospect, so it makes sense that top-flight clubs are interested – even if AC Milan seems a bit of a surprise destination.

It's going to be very interesting to see if the Italian club come in for him again in the upcoming window.
