Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley has claimed that part of the reason Barcelona's Lionel Messi scores so many goals is the on-pitch partnerships and understanding that he has developed with his teammates.

With EFL fixtures suspended until further notice, clubs, fans, and the media have had to turn to the archives to get their fill of football.

It appears Lolley has been doing just that as well, as he took to Twitter today to comment on a video of a goal Messi scored three years ago.

Lolley will no doubt be looking to use the on-pitch understanding and partnerships he has built once the season resumes as the Reds are pushing for the play-offs this term.

Forest have been something of a surprise package under Sabri Lamouchi this season and are fifth in the Championship as things stand.

The Reds winger has played his part so far and you feel he will likely be vital if they're to secure promotion this term.

Lolley has featured 37 times so far this season, scoring eight times and providing seven assists.

The Verdict

Lolley is notoriously outspoken on social media but you'd imagine it would be hard for anyone to disagree with his point here.

Messi is, of course, one of the best players in the world and, arguably, one of the all-time greats but one of the things that sets him apart is the understanding he develops with his teammates.

You'd imagine the 27-year-old will be hoping the understanding he has built up with his teammates can help fire him to promotion when and if the season resumes.
