Nottingham Forest square off with new boys Millwall in one of the opening fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship 2017/18, with fans set to flock to the City Ground for a 7.45pm Friday night kick off.
Bosses Mark Warburton and Neil Harris are busy preparing their sides for the big kick off in a month’s time, and have made moves in the summer transfer window to bolster their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Warburton has secured just the single summer signing thus far, bringing prolific Hibernian striker Jason Cummings to the Championship.
Cummings scored 23 Scottish Championship goals last season to fire his former side to the title, and the 21-year-old joins Forest with a point to prove.
Warburton hoped to add further goals to his strike force this summer to relieve the burden placed upon Britt Assombalonga, but with bids reportedly coming in for the striker, Cummings may be forced to take up the mantle of Forest’s number one forward by the time kick off rolls around.
Millwall have added three players to their squad, with James Meredith and Tom Elliott joining from League One, and Wolves reject George Saville linking up with the east London outfit.
The Lions are the weakest of all the sides entering the division this season, and the business conducted by Harris so far is largely uninspiring.
Much must be done in the coming weeks if Millwall are to avoid the drop, with Harris’ side looking likely to endure a difficult campaign.
Warburton’s single signing will have impressed Forest fans, but they will look to their manager for further additions, especially if Assombalonga does leave.
Comparing the two squads at this current stage of the window, there can only be one winner, and I expect Forest to open their campaign with a comfortable three points.
