Nottingham Forest want to bring West Ham's Sam Byram back to the club for next season as they seek competition for Tendayi Darikwa at right-back.

The former Leeds man joined the Reds in the summer window last season, but a serious knee injury sustained just weeks later ruled Byram out for much of the campaign.

However, he recovered quicker than many expected and managed to play five games for Martin O'Neill's side in the final month of the season, although they unfortunately didn't count for much with Forest out of the play-off picture.

But, he clearly impressed though, with Nottinghamshire Live revealing that bringing the 25-year-old back is a priority for the club, as Darikwa the only other senior option available for O'Neill.

With Pablo Zabaleta and Ryan Fredericks ahead of him in the pecking order for the Hammers it seems as though a move ahead of next season is inevitable for Byram as he looks to play regular football after a frustrating few years.

The report also states that Forest are not interested in Tom Lockyer, who had been linked with a move to the City Ground.

The Verdict

This would be a very good signing for Forest as Byram has proven himself to be a top player at this level over the years and his form towards the end of the season was encouraging.

At his best he would be a great addition for most Championship sides and the player will hope after a full pre-season he will be able to get back to that level.

West Ham will be keen to offload Byram so this is a deal that you can easily see happening.
