Nottingham Forest have placed a number of their non-playing staff on the Government's Furlough scheme according to a report from Nottinghamshire Live.

The Government will cover 80% of their monthly wages until the club are to put them back on their payroll. However, Forest will cover the remaining 20% of their wages, which will be pleasing to hear.

It comes after the EFL announced that fixtures won't get back underway until deemed safe to do so, with the off-the-field crisis still developing in the UK.

Forest are currently sat fifth in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can hold their nerve in the race to win promotion into the Premier League this season.

Sabri Lamouchi's side are ten points adrift of the automatic promotion places, so it seems a tall order for them to be able to force their way into the top-two in the second tier.

The Reds only have one win in their last six league matches though, which will make for concerning reading heading into the final nine games of this year's campaign.

Forest have a tough run-in of fixtures when they do return to training, and they'll know that they have to be at their best to finish inside the top-six this term.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised that they've decided to do this.

The protection of the club will be the most important thing here, and Forest are clearly trying to cut costs for jobs that aren't needed at this moment in time whilst there is a break from competitive action.

I think we're going to see a number of Championship clubs follow them in placing on the Government's Furlough scheme in the coming weeks.

It's good to hear that Nottingham Forest will cover the remaining 20% of the wages that aren't covered by the Government though as their non-playing staff won't miss out on their monthly wages in full.
