Nottingham Forest have allowed goalkeeper Jordan Smith to move to Mansfield on loan for the remainder of the season.

The move was confirmed by the club's official website this evening, and the young goalkeeper will be hoping to find regular game time with the League Two side.

Smith has fallen down the pecking order at the City Ground and it will come as no surprise to see him being loaned out for the rest of this year's campaign.

The 24-year-old has only made one appearance this season, which will be hugely disappointing for the shot-stopper who featured regularly for Nottingham Forest last year.

Smith featured in 31 games last season, but the arrival of Costel Pantilimon has forced him out of the side, and he'll be confident of playing a part in Mansfield's promotion bid this season.

They are currently sat fourth in the League Two table, and if he can impress out on loan, then he could potentially force his way into the Nottingham Forest starting XI when he returns at the end of the season.

Smith could be in line to make his debut for Mansfield when they take on Yeovil at the weekend.

The Verdict

This is the best outcome for both parties.

Smith isn't getting enough game time Nottingham Forest this season and I couldn't see him breaking into the starting XI anytime soon.

If he can get regular playing time out on loan, then he could potentially force his way into the Forest team in future seasons, but he needs to make a good impression at Mansfield.
