Nottingham Forest transfer target Jonathan Kodjia has completed a move to Al-Gharafa, Aston Villa have confirmed on their official Twitter page.

The 30-year-old failed to make a single Premier League start for the Villans this season, despite scoring nine goals to help them win promotion from the Championship last term.

The Ivorian scored 31 goals in over 100 appearances during his four-year stay at Villa Park, but he has now moved to Qatar to join Al-Gharafa on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Nottingham Forest were linked with the signing of Kodjia - Birmingham Live claimed in a Q&A session (14/01, 13:20pm) that Forest were leading the race to sign the forward.

The Reds will be desperate to bring in another striker this month, after Rafa Mir was recalled from his loan spell at the City Ground by parent club Wolves last week.

But Sabri Lamouchi has now missed out on another transfer target in Kodjia - Eddie Nketiah was believed to be on Forest's radar, but he is now set to stay at Arsenal for the second-half of the campaign.

The Reds sit fifth in the Championship, five points off the automatic promotion places with a game in hand.

The Verdict

This is a real shame for Forest fans, and they will be eager to see the club sign a new forward as soon as possible.

Kodjia is a proven goalscorer at this level, as showed during his time at Bristol City and Aston Villa, and even though he didn't play a lot for Villa this season, he could have still done a job for the Reds.

The quicker they can bring in another striker, the better.
