Nottingham Forest winger Gil Dias has admitted he needed time to adapt to the physicality of English football after his summer loan move from Monaco.

The 22-year-old was one of many additions at the City Ground in the previous window and he has only shown glimpses of his undoubted ability so far.

However, that's understandable given the rugged nature of the Championship and speaking to Nottingham Live, the former Fiorentina man acknowledged that it's a demanding league.

"I am not a physical player. I need to improve on that, if I want to play in the Championship. I feel as though I am getting better; that I am getting stronger."

"I can have contact with an opposition player now and I do not fall down!"

And, the talented youngster, who has played 11 times in the league this season, feels he will start contributing more in the coming months.

"In every game that passes, I do better. But I still want to produce my best performance. You can expect more from me; you can expect me to dribble more, to score more goals – I hope."

Dias will hope to be involved again today as the Reds take on Norwich as they look to consolidate their place in the top six.

The Verdict

You can sometimes forget how hard it can be for players, especially younger ones, when they move to a new country and league.

Having spent the past few years in Portugal, France and Italy, it was always going to be a challenge and Dias has taken time to settle.

However, his attitude is positive and he is clearly understanding more about life in England. The talent is undoubted and Forest will hope he can deliver consistently now.
