AFC Bournemouth have confirmed on the club’s official website that Adam Federici has returned to the South Coast after they agreed to rescind his loan move to Nottingham Forest.

Federici agreed a short-term loan move to Nottingham on transfer deadline day, but the goalkeeper suffered an injury whilst on international duty, which delayed him meeting up with his new club.

The 32-year-old’s knee injury requires surgery, and Bournemouth have agreed to cancel his loan move to Forest, with the goalkeeper returning to the Premier League outfit to begin his rehabilitation.

Forest continued their Sky Bet Championship campaign without Federici on Saturday afternoon, suffering a third defeat of the season at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls beat Mark Warburton’s side 3-1 in Saturday’s teatime kick-off, leaving Forest without a victory in their last two Championship outings.

Jordan Smith once again continued as Forest’s goalkeeper following Federici’s failed move, with the youngster making his seventh appearance of the season and sixth in the Championship.

Warburton’s side have entered a busy period, and are handed an opportunity to bounce back following their recent defeat when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

Forest also face Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Fulham and Sheffield United between now and October.

The Verdict

Bournemouth’s gesture is fantastic, with the Premier League club taking the financial pressure away from Nottingham Forest by cancelling Federici’s loan move.

However, Forest missing Federici is a huge blow for Warburton, with a goalkeeper one of the key areas the club wanted to strengthen towards the end of the summer transfer window.

With the latest developments in Federici’s situation, it would be no surprise to see Forest look for another goalkeeping reinforcement when the January transfer window opens.
