Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings is set to seal a return to Scotland by signing for Rangers on loan for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign, a report in The Daily Record has confirmed.

The 22-year-old signed for the Reds in the summer but has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth in the Forest team, featuring just 17 times and netting four goals.

Mark Warburton signed the striker for Hibernian during the summer but his sacking on New Year's Eve has appeared to push Cummings back down the pecking order.

Of late, the Scotland international hasn't even been making the squad and this temporary stint away from the East Midlands could aid his development ahead of a battle to win back a place in Aitor Karanka's team next season.

Cummings will become Rangers' fourth summer signing and his impressive goal scoring exploits whilst playing for Hibs will probably have the club's supporters excited to see him in action.

The Verdict

Jason Cummings was a pretty intriguing signing when Forest made the decision to take the player during the summer.

Having scored lots of goals during his times with Hibernian and the low cost of the deal, it was a no-risk signing by Mark Warburton, but for whatever reason the transfer just hasn't worked out.

The bottom line is that Cummings needs to be playing football at this stage of his career and signing for a club the size of Rangers can only be beneficial to the player.

Forest fans will, however, hope that this isn't the last they have seen of Cummings as there is a genuine belief that given a prolonged run in the team he can be a real asset in the Championship.
