Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall has revealed his delight after securing a new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old has been a key figure since Sabri Lamouchi took over in the summer and his form prompted interest from Premier League clubs for the defender.

However, Worrall has made it clear that he wanted to stay at the City Ground and the Reds confirmed on their official site this afternoon that the academy graduate has signed a deal to remain at the club until 2024.

And, after that, the former England U21 international took to Twitter to explain just what this means to him.

"Happiest lad in Nottingham. Hugely proud to sign a new contract for the club I love."

Worrall's time with Forest appeared to be up after he was sent on loan to Rangers last season and despite doing reasonably well in Scotland, he came back and was given a fresh start under the new management.

The local lad has not missed a minute of action in the league under Lamouchi and is sure to start on Saturday at West Brom.

Where did these 15 Nottingham Forest players sign from?

The verdict

It's nice to see a message like this from Worrall as it proves just how happy he is at the club and he will be delighted to have secured his long-term future.

The centre-back has grown up supporting Forest and this means so much to him - as you can tell. So, he will understand how important it is to take the club back to the Premier League and it's now down to Worrall and his teammates to deliver.

They have done well so far but they need to kick-on to ensure the majority of Worrall's new deal is played out in the top-flight.
