Premier League outfit Watford have joined the hunt for Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury and the Hornets have already held talks with the 26-year-old, Wdsport reports.
With Lansbury yet to sign a contract extension at Forest and seeing his current deal expire at the end of the season, the former Arsenal youngster will be available for a cut-price fee in January and a host of sides are keen on his services.
Newcastle United, Derby County and Birmingham City are amongst those rivalling Watford for the midfielder’s signature but it’s reported Lansbury has whittled his options down to two clubs.
Having featured for Watford in the 2009/10 season, a return to the Premier League could be an intriguing opportunity for Lansbury but his first-team opportunities could become limited after Adlene Guedioura and Nordin Amrabat return from the African Cup of Nations, whilst Valon Behrami and Roberto Pereyra will also return from injuries.
Moving to the Premier League in January could be a short-term gain but a long-term loss for Lansbury, whilst moving to Newcastle or Birmingham would see him spend at least another six months in the second-tier but his first-team chances would be greater in the long run.
Forest fans….. Will you be gutted to see Lansbury depart? Is it inevitable he will leave? Let us know your thoughts below!
