Nottingham Forest signing Lewis Grabban and the potential incoming of Jack Colback should have fans more excited than the influx of continental players.

Forest has made almost a starting XI’s worth of signings so far this summer, they have been by far the busiest side in the Championship.

But it isn’t the promise and excitement of players bought in from Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and the like.

It is the addition from Aston Villa that have been impressive - with the potential arrival from Newcastle United to boot.

Grabban was signed from Aston Villa who are in financial meltdown. He knows the Championship and will score goals.

The 30-year-old had that at Norwich prior to a move to Villa Park. It is Championship experience that is necessary in Forest’s side to compliment the new exotic additions.

Colback is the same, should The Tricky Trees acquire the services of the former Sunderland man.

He will be the midfield general they need now that the injured Chris Cohen has retired. He is the type of players Forest fans love, as they know all too well.

The 28-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan at the City Ground and Aitor Karanaka is keen to bring the midfielder back on board, on loan.

Championship experience is vital if you are changing the dynamic of the squad, be it for youth or through a change of personnel.

Now the Wolves model is a one-year experiment that worked - it might not again, so adding in the mix of experience should smooth the transition for Forest.

Forest won’t be a new Wolves, they will be a new Nottingham Forest - one that is reinventing themselves, and their success remains to be seen.

But signings such as Grabban and Colback will certainly show promise.
