Nottingham Forest have enjoyed an excellent start to Mark Warburton’s first full season in charge at the club, picking up three wins from their opening five Championship encounters.

New Reds signings have looked strong, with Barrie McKay and Jason Cummings particularly impressing at the City Ground, and Warburton will be confident that his side can continue their good form when the league recommences following the international break.

Improving the midfield with a priority during the summer transfer market, and Liam Bridcutt arrived from Leeds last week to ensure the middle of the park is bolstered, but Forest should now turn to Fulham man Kevin McDonald, who would add further quality and depth.

The 28-year-old has started four games for the Cottagers this season, but with Fulham possessing immense quality and depth in the middle of the park, the Scot may be allowed to move on if the right deal were to materialise.

If Warburton can bring McDonald to Nottingham and partner him with Bridcutt, the Reds would have one of the most experienced pairings in the division, a characteristic that could certainly play to their advantage this season.

McDonald only joined the west London outfit from Wolves last season, and played a key role in Fulham’s rise into the top six last year.

The player can certainly perform in the upper reaches of the division, and if Warburton is serious about mounting a promotion bid this season, then a player of McDonald’s quality is exactly what he should target.

A deal in the final few days of the transfer window is possible, and as the manager considers making any final touches to his squad, McDonald will certainly be high on the agenda, if a new middle man is indeed a priority.

Should Forest target McDonald? Should Fulham let the player go?
