There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the whole of Nottingham Forest at the moment and those off the field issues don't seem to be helping the performances on the field.

The sleeping giant of a club currently find themselves sitting just above the Championship relegation zone in 20th place after picking up just four wins from the opening sixteen games.

Forest boss Montanier (if he's still there by that point) will be desperate to get to the January transfer window to enable him to strengthen the squad as required.

With an American consortium reportedly close to completing a takeover, there could be funds available for Nottingham Forest and Philippe Montanier, or whoever else is brought in as manager.

Forest should look to take a dip into the transfer market north of the border, in particular Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers who have an abundance of talent currently on their books.

This article is going to take a look at two players they could potentially poach in January.

Martyn Waghorn

Martyn Waghorn is certainly someone who will be attracting a lot of attention from English clubs in January, and one club who should be taking a keen interest in the forward is Nottingham Forest

Waghorn has been excellent since his move north of the border to join Rangers, and has netted a remarkable 36 times in 43 games for the club.

Waghorn is - of course - no stranger to the Championship having represented numerous clubs in England’s second tier including Leicester City, Millwall and Hull City.

His best goalscoring campaign at Championship level came during the 2009/10 campaign during a loan spell with Leicester City.

Throughout that campaign Waghorn made a total of 43 league appearances for the club, scoring 12 times in the process.

Barrie McKay

Rangers starlet Barrie McKay is certainly someone who should be on Nottingham Forest's radar this January.

McKay is extremely highly rated at Ibrox and appears to have bags and bags of potential.

Despite being just the tender age of 21, McKay has already made over 100 appearances for Rangers, scoring 15 goals in the process from his position out wide.

The young man is comfortable on either flank, as well as in behind the striker in a number 10 role.

McKay’s potential has also been recognised by the Scotland national team for whom he has been capped at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.

His form last season for The Gers led to him earning his first full senior cap for the national team - his only one to date.

Rangers undoubtedly are huge club but so are Nottingham Forest and I'm certain that the combination of the history and prestige associated with the football club as well as the opportunity to challenge himself in English football would be a big enough pull to persuade the 21-year-old.
