After Nottingham Forest secured their Championship status with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon, Mark Warburton will definitely want to ensure that the Reds don't find themselves in that predicament for a long, long time.

There is no doubt that Forest are a sleeping giant, who really shouldn't be fighting for mid-table mediocrity every year, and certainly shouldn't be facing a relegation battle neither, therefore progress under a new manager and potentially a new owner is key.

Forest's recruitment in the summer is vitally important for their progress under the former Rangers and Brentford boss, and he will no doubt now be looking to cast his eye towards strengthening what is already a pretty decent squad at his disposal.

There is one player though, that Warburton should definitely look to land the summer, and that man is Jackson Irvine.

Irvine has been an incredible asset for Burton Albion in their remarkable first season in the Championship, surviving the drop by one point, and if it wasn't for his performances, then the Brewers would have probably found themselves rooted to the foot of the table.

The 25-year-old, who scored 10 times in 41 games this season, will certainly have many potential suitors in the summer, and with a takeover on the horizon for Forest, there's no doubt that they will have the financial backing to be able to land the Australian international.

Forest have lacked firepower on the wing this year; the likes of Muzzy Carayol and failed loan signing Nicolao Dumitru have failed to make an impact at the City Ground.

Warburton's eyes should be firmly set on landing Irvine this summer, with his ability to anywhere in midfield.

So... What do you think Forest fans? Should Forest go in for Jackson Irvine? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
