Nottingham Forest are set to make a fresh bid to sign midfielder Luke Freeman from Sheffield United before the end of the January transfer window, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported.

It was reported earlier this month that Sabri Lamouchi's side have joined Championship promotion rivals Leeds United in the race to sign Freeman, although no move has yet been secured for the 27-year-old as the window approaches its final days.

Despite that, it seems Forest have not given up hope of bringing Freeman to the City Ground, with Nixon's latest update claiming that Sabri Lamouchi's side are set to make another attempt to sign the midfielder.

It is thought that any chance Forest have of securing this deal however, will depend on the Blades' own abilities to make a new signing before the end of this month.

Freeman only joined Sheffield United for a reported £5million from another Championship side, QPR, during the last summer transfer window, and has since gone onto make 13 appearances in all competitions for Chris Wilder's side.

The midfielder signed a three-year deal with the Yorkshire club, securing his future at Bramall Lane until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Verdict

This is an interesting one.

The fact that Forest are set to make another move for Freeman does seem to be something of a signal of their intent, although you wonder what chance they have of being successful here.

With this move seemingly resting on Sheffield United completing a deal of their own first, and the lack of time there is remaining in the window, it is one that does seem as though it could go all the way down to the wire.

If however they are able to pull it off, then you imagine the impact that Freeman has previously made at this level with QPR suggests he could also be a useful addition for Forest as they make that push for promotion over the next few months.
