Nottingham Forest are reportedly very close to confirming the arrival of Wolves striker Leo Bonatini having beaten a host of clubs to his signature, reports Dan Taylor of the Guardian.

The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour at Molyneux this season and manager Nuno Espirito Santo is willing to let him leave this month to get some first-team football.

The Brazilian was a key member of Santo's squad last season as Wolves romped to the Championship title, scoring 12 goals in 46 appearances and assisting six more as well.

Bonatini would become Martin O'Neill's second signing of the January transfer window, following Leicester City centre back Yohan Benalouane.

Seven players have left the City Ground this month including the likes of Danny Fox, who left to join Wigan Athletic and Jorge Grant who signed for Mansfield Town on loan.

The Reds currently sit in ninth place in the Championship table but just four points behind sixth-placed Derby County.

The verdict

What a wonderful signing this would be.

I have criticised Forest a lot for their transfer business but will give credit where it is due. Bonatini is a proven Championship striker and will give them some much-needed competition in attack.

Grabban has done well but he could do with somebody breathing down his neck.
