According to Sky Sports News, Kieran Dowell is on the verge of joining Nottingham Forest on loan.

Sky sources understand that Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Everton to take promising young midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan for the 2017/18 season.

With just three senior appearances under his belt, Everton starlet Dowell is being given the chance to impress during a loan stint away from Goodison Park.

The England under-20 international, who was part of the U20 World Cup winning side this summer, is highly regarded by the Toffees and has featured in their pre-season plans.

Dowell netted against FC Twente in a pre-season friendly and has impressed but faces plenty of competition for places in the attacking midfield regions.

Predominantly a number 10, the 19-year-old can also play on either wing or as a more conventional central midfielder.

Dowell was an integral part of the England under-20 squad which won the world cup at their age group.

The talented teenager netted the winner against South Korea and started in the 1-0 victory over Venezuela in the final.

Kieran Dowell is expected to complete his move to Nottingham Forest today and become their sixth senior summer signing.

The Reds have already brought in Jason Cummings, Andreas Bouchalakis, Tendayi Darikwa, Barrie McKay and Daryl Murphy.

The Verdict

Kieran Dowell is an undoubted talent as he has shown in the Everton academy, in England youth internationals and in pre-season friendlies.

But whether he can replicate this in the competitive and physical environment of the Championship is another question; this division has chewed up and spat out many a talented player before.

The 19-year-old has the skill to cope with this division and he will learn a lot from this league.

If he adapts and meets the physical demands, then Nottingham Forest will have a real asset in their attacking midfield department.
