Nottingham Forest are close to signing Rangers winger Barrie McKay, according to The Scotsman.

Forest boss Mark Warburton managed McKay during his time at Rangers and The Scotsman understands that he is set to work with the 21-year-old again, this time at The City Ground.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has made McKay surplus to requirements at Ibrox after he refused to extend his contract at the club, meaning the East Midlands club could capture the tricky winger for a fee of just £750,000.

McKay, who has been forced to train with the Rangers under-20 side, is also wanted by Cardiff City according to The Sun, though Forest are believed to be leading the race for him thanks to Warburton.

The 22-year-old winger is an outstanding prospect and a deal worth only £750,000 for him would be a tremendous coup for any side in the Championship.

Mark Warburton needs to add another winger to his side and a deal for his former player, who could be a menace in the Championship next season, seems a no brainer.
