Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of AS Monaco midfielder Pele on a loan deal until the end of the season, the club has now confirmed.

Judilson Mamadu Tuncará Gomes, also known as Pele, signed for the French club at the start of the season, but has been limited to just four league starts for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The 27-year-old was mightily impressive for Portuguese side Rio Ave last season, where he helped the club qualify for the Europa League after finishing in 5th position, scoring seven goals in 31 games from midfield, as well as being given the Player of the Season award.

The powerful midfielder has featured five times for the Guinea-Bissau national team, and becomes Martin O'Neill's second signing as Nottingham Forest manager, after signing Yohan Benalouane from Leicester City.

The Reds have plenty of talented midfielders to choose from, as the East Midlands club look to secure a play-off finish come the end of the season. O'Neill's men currently sit 9th in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points off the top six.

The Verdict

Pele looks to be a really exciting player on paper - having contributed to plenty of goals from midfield last season, this suggests that he is the complete box-to-box midfielder.

This move could raise eyebrows however, as do Forest really need another midfielder? They have a plethora of talented midfielders in their ranks, so it could be a busy day in terms of outgoings today.

Forest fans will be hoping that Pele is a better signing than Gil Dias, who also arrived from Monaco at  the start of the season but recently had his loan spell cut short at the City Ground.
