Nottingham Forest have reportedly rejected a bid from Wigan for club captain, Danny Fox, with Martin O'Neill keen to keep his squad in tact early into his managerial reign.

Sky Sports News reporter, Rob Dorsett revealed the news, and it remains to be seen as to whether the Latics will submit a fresh offer for the defender.

Fox has given the newly appointed Forest boss a selection headache ahead of their game with play-off contenders, Bristol City this weekend, after he was dismissed against Reading following an altercation with Liam Moore.

It leaves Forest with just one fit centre-back in Jack Robinson, and it's unlikely that we will see any defenders departing the club in the near future.

It's an interesting stance taken by the Reds as Fox is out of contract in the summer, and it hasn't been confirmed that they are planning on offering him a new deal anytime soon.

Fox has been a regular for Nottingham Forest this season, making 18 league starts for the promotion contenders this season.

Forest are currently sat 9th in the Championship table and are just four points adrift of the play-off places, with many supporters hoping they can make a long-awaited return to the top flight.

The Verdict:

Forest are making a wise move here.

Although Fox might not be the strongest of options in the Reds back line, they surely will have to keep hold of him for the remainder of this season.

His experience and leadership will be needed in this relatively young Forest squad that are challenging for promotion in this years campaign.
