Nottingham Forest winger Sammy Ameobi has reportedly penned a one-year contract extension with the club according to Nottinghamshire Live.

The 28-year-old has been hugely impressive with the Reds this term, and has played his part in the club's bid for promotion into the Premier League this term.

Ameobi has made 38 appearances in all competitions this season for Nottingham Forest, and has chipped in with three goals and eight assists.

The winger's contract had originally been due to expire at the end of this year's campaign, but the club are clearly keen to have him around for another year.

Forest are currently sat fifth in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can hold their nerve as they look to finish inside the top-six this term.

Sabri Lamouchi's men have struggled for consistency in their results in their last few matches, with the Reds only having one win in their last six matches, which will be a slight concern for the Forest boss.

Off-the-field events had previously called this year's campaign to an abrupt halt, although clubs have recently returned to training ahead of competitive action getting back under way.

Forest's first game back is at Hillsborough, when they're set to take on struggling Sheffield Wednesday, who will be eager to turn around their own poor run of form at the earliest of opportunities.

The Verdict:

This is the right decision by the club.

I'll admit that I had my doubts as to whether Ameobi would be good enough to force his way into the Forest starting XI when he first signed for the club.

But his pace, trickery and power in attack have made him a tough player to come up against for plenty of opposition defenders in the Championship this term.

If he can continue to build on these impressive showings, then Forest could well be playing their football in the Premier League next season under the management of Sabri Lamouchi.
