Nottingham Forest have made an enquiry about bringing Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul to the City Ground, according to reports in The Nottingham Post.

Mark Warburton’s men have led a well publicised chase for a new shot stopper this summer, with Brondby’s Frederik Ronnow reportedly rejecting a move to the club in the past week.

Now the former Rangers boss’ attentions have turned to the Dutch keeper, with Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez willing to allow the player to leave St James’ Park before the 11pm deadline.

The Dutch international joined the Magpies’ youth set up in 2005, and went on to make 160 appearances following his debut for the club the following year.

Krul was sent on loan to AZ Alkmaar last season as Newcastle won the Championship title on the final day of the season, but could be playing in the division this year if Forest can pull a deal off.

Newcastle have Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot, and young England U20 goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on their books, and Krul’s career in the north east looks set to be over.

The Verdict: Forest are in desperate need of a new number one, and Krul would be an excellent capture for Warburton’s men.

An experienced Premier League regular, the Dutchman is most likely to be available on loan, giving the club the season to seek out more permanent targets.

A deal seems likely, if Krul is willing to play Championship football.

Forest fans, would Krul be a good signing for your club?
