Nottingham Forest forward Jason Cummings is heading back to the City Ground after having his loan spell with Peterborough United cut short.

Peterborough have moved to confirm the news this evening, but the Nottingham Post’s Paul Taylor has offered a further update, suggesting that Forest are already looking for somewhere to send Cummings late in the transfer window.

Cummings signed for Forest when Mark Warburton was in-charge at the City Ground, but he’s made a limited impact in Nottingham, scoring only four goals in 17 appearances.

Last year, Forest sent the 23-year-old to Rangers on loan, where he impressed back in Scottish football with six goals in 18 appearances across all competitions.

However, it wasn’t enough to earn him a chance at Forest, who moved Cummings down into League One in the summer.

Peterborough benefitted from six league goals in 22 appearances, as well as two further strikes in the Football League Trophy. However, his last appearance for Posh came in the FA Cup hammering to Middlesbrough earlier in the month.

Now, Cummings is heading back to Nottingham, with another move seemingly on the cards.

The deadline for transfers to be completed is tomorrow evening at 11pm.

The Verdict

It hasn’t been a good spell for Cummings at Peterborough, with the forward not impressing in League One.

In truth he hasn’t set the world alight in English football at all, with another chance at Forest wishful thinking.

A move back to Scotland seems like something the player could benefit from, but clubs will have to be quick.
