The 20-year-old has enjoyed a sensational 2021/22 Championship campaign – scoring 17 times and providing nine assists as he’s helped Steve Cooper’s side reach the play-offs.
Forest face Sheffield United over two legs for a place in the Wembley final later this month, qualification for which would put them within 90 minutes of returning to the top flight after a lengthy period away.
On the Sky Sports website, McAnuff has indicated he believes Johnson could be playing top-flight football next term with or without the Reds.
Asked which EFL player was most likely to be signed by a Premier League club, he said: “Brennan Johnson has been outstanding for Nottingham Forest this season.”
According to Football Insider, Brentford, Palace, Leeds, and West Ham are among the sides that have been monitoring his situation ahead of the summer window.
It was reported back in March that Johnson is in no rush to sign a new deal at the City Ground despite Forest opening talks and the forward’s current contract set to expire next summer.
This prediction should come as no shock and is hard to disagree with.
Unless Forest are promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs, you’d imagine that the 20-year-old will leave the East Midlands club to move to the top flight in the summer window.
He’s been sensational this season and there should be clubs queueing up to get a deal done if possible this summer.
It seems as though Brentford, Palace, Leeds, and West Ham will be among the suitors should Forest fall short.
While the Reds will find it hard to resist significant offers if Johnson doesn’t sign a new contract.
